Tui Na (pronounced Twee Nah) is Chinese Massage. It is an ancient system of bodywork that works on the musculo-skeletal system of the body as well as the internal organs.

Tui Na methods include the use of hand techniques (rubbing and tapping methods) to massage the soft tissue (muscles and tendons) of the body, and acupressure and Qi Gong techniques to directly affect the bodies energy (or Qi). External herbal poultices, compresses, liniments, and salves are also used to enhance these therapeutic methods.

The way in which this modality works on the organs is through the meridian system. The meridian system is the Chinese Medical Theory of how energy (or Qi) flows in the body. Depending on the ailment there can be excess, deficiency, or stagnation in a particular meridian, relating to a particular organ.

In a typical session, the client lies on a table. The practitioner examines the specific problem(s) of the client and begins to apply a specific treatment protocol. The major focus of application is upon pain sites, acupressure points, meridians, muscles and joints. Advanced Tui Na practitioners may also use Chinese Herbs to facilitate quicker healing. Sessions last from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Depending on the specific problem(s) of the client they may return for additional treatments. The client usually feels relaxed but energized by the treatment.
