Herbs

The use of Medicinal herbs (and substances*) dates back over 5000 years. Over the course of this time the Chinese, Aryvedic, and Native American traditions have developed a means of categorizing the herbs based on their properties. These properties being warming, cooling, tonifying, toxicity clearing, stimulate or inhibit urination, stimulate or inhibit bowel movement, etc. Along with having general properties the herbs have been determined to have a beneficial effect on certain organs. For example, detoxifying the liver, nourishing digestion, tonifying the kidneys, etc.
To determine what herbs are most beneficial for an individual an intake, rooted in Chinese Medicine, is performed. The Chinese Medical intake looks into organ function, sensory function, emotional state, energy level, sleeping patterns, food cravings, dreams, body temperature, pain sites, tongue appearance, and pulse quality.
The herbs are given raw and taken as a tea or in kosher vegetarian capsules.

At Shalem Healing we primarily use raw herbs taken as a tea or provide individual formula encapsulation for convenience or for herbs that are not water soluble. This is the way herbs are typically taken in China, and it is the only way to insure that the formula being ingested is specific to the individual.
