As one of the only nurse midwives in the area offering home birth, Ali Phipps accepts most insurances, including Badger Care when applicable. She has had the privilege of attending more than 1,000 births.

For the past 15 years, her full scope of practice has included antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecology throughout a woman's lifespan, with births attended for the past 10 years at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare along with other hospitals and practices. Ali is nationally board certified as a Nurse Midwife through the American Midwifery Certification Board, a subsidiary of the American College of Nurse Midwives.

Ali's focus now is on home births and has moved away from hospital births.  Research shows that women who chose home birth found it to be a safe, satisfying, nurturing and empowering experience at a third of the cost of hospital births.  If you have the opportunity, The Business of Being Born is an excellent film.

Ali's Philosophy of Health Care
I enjoy delivering highly individualized and educationally intensive client care that is family centered and includes the appropriate use of technology and complementary therapies including herbs, hypnosis, aroma therapy, hydrotherapy, sterile water papules, and more.  When complications arise, a consultative and referral relationship with physicians who offer a wealth of experience and skills is in place.  Care doesn’t end at birth and a six week check up.  Home birth includes several visits during the postpartum period and assistance with breast feeding as needed, screening for postpartum depression, and continued well woman OB/Gynecological care.

My hobbies include swimming, crocheting, writing, playing guitar and walking my dog, Sonny. I have enjoyed hiking with my husband and youngest child even prior to his birth. (We were hiking the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone with our five children when I was 32 weeks pregnant with our youngest.) Other interests about which I am passionate include church, Bread of Healing – a free clinic for adults with no health insurance, facilitating women’s support groups, caring for my parents who currently live with us, and spending time with our children, ten grandchildren, and extended family.
